Drawn from a private archive and not ordinarily offered for sale, this garment stands out for its rarity and cultural significance. It is further distinguished by its provenance: worn by Sade during a live performance in London in 1985, while performing the iconic track Why Can't We Live Together--a context that anchors the piece within both fashion and music history.
The garment takes the form of a black velvet bolero, conceived with a rich and tactile approach to surface. It is embellished with rhinestone and bead inserts, interwoven fabric elements, and tone-on-tone trimmings, creating a sophisticated interplay of texture and light. The composition reflects Gaultier's early experimentation with ornament, structure, and subversion of traditional codes.
More than a garment, it stands as an archival artifact--an intersection of performance, design, and cultural memory, and a highly collectible expression of 1980s avant-garde fashion.
